Terms & Conditions

These Terms explain the way Life Stories by Matt Kennedy provides its life-story writing and book production services.

The Services

Life Stories by Matt Kennedy offers two ways to create a life story:

Family Assisted — $1,500
A family member or other person close to the storyteller becomes the Story Partner, conducts the conversations and provides the recordings to Matt.

Matt Assisted — $1,800
Matt conducts the conversations, either in person where practical or by Zoom, and then completes the writing and book production process.

Both services include the same finished outcome: a professionally written and produced life story.

What is included

The service includes:

• writing and editing of the life story; 
• relevant historical, geographical and social research; 
• clarification and follow-up where needed; 
• family review and approval of the manuscript; 
• photographs and supporting material, generally within approximately 8–10 pages; 
• professional formatting and cover design; and 
• five professionally produced copies of the finished book. 

The finished book is intended to look and feel like a professionally produced book rather than a printed document or photographic album.

The Conversations

There is no fixed number of conversations, recording hours or pages. Every life story is different.

The Road Map is a guide to help make sure important parts of a person's life are not overlooked. The pace of the conversations is determined by the storyteller and Story Partner.

Review and Approval

The family has the opportunity to review the manuscript and identify errors, inaccuracies, omissions or changes they would like made.

The review process continues as reasonably necessary until the manuscript is ready for production.

Once the final manuscript has been approved and the book has been sent to production, changes may require a new edition or additional production costs.

Timeframe

Most projects can be expected to take approximately 3–6 months, although this is a general guide only. The timeframe depends on the conversations, the amount of material captured, the writing process and the family's review.

Payment

A 25% deposit is payable when the project is confirmed.

The remaining 75% is invoiced once the final manuscript has been reviewed and approved by the family and is payable before the book is sent to production.

Payment can be made by bank transfer using the details provided on the invoice.

Additional copies of the finished book can be ordered separately.

Personal Material

The family is responsible for ensuring that they have the right to provide photographs, documents, recordings and other material supplied for use in the life story.

Pausing a Project

If a project needs to be paused, we can discuss the circumstances and agree on the best way to continue.
